谁说深圳的英语没有进步!?

几个月前,偶乘深圳地铁,发现车厢内壁上贴着一句滑稽的英语POSTER :

"DON’T EAT AND DRINK!".

管理层可能要表达的意思是:不要(在车厢内)吃喝! 当时觉得这句英语表达得很可笑,没在意.只是心想: 深圳这鬼地方人才济济,政府机构更有那么多"海龟派",英文表达竟然还会错漏百出,......

事隔数月,昨天又坐了趟地铁,发现这句英语已经被修改......说明深圳的英语进步了!

注: 上面这句英语的真实含义是: 喝的时候不要吃! 或不要一边吃一边喝!了相信管理层肯定不是这个意思!

The standard expression should be"No eating or drinking!"or"Don’’t eat or drink!".

People often oversight the difference between "and "and "or" while they appear in the negative sentences.

Please further compare:

Don’’t talk and drive!= Don’’t talk while driving!

Don’’t talk or drive!= Don’’t talk, and don’’t drive either!

I don’’t like the mobile phone and digital camera! = I don’’t like the mobile phone which has a digital camera inside.

I don’’t like mobile phone or  camera!= I don’’t like mobile phone, and I don’’t like  camera either!
